Southern Nationals Bonus Series Set for $4,053-to-win
Tarheel 50 October 3rd at Tri-County Race Track
11th Annual running of the Ray Cook-promoted Tarheel 50 presented
again this year by Hogsed Sports Wear in Warne, NC and the Jacky
Jones Automotive Group is set to go on Friday Night October
3, 2014 at the Tri-County Race Track in Brasstown, NC.
The largest paying Stock Car event of the season at the track
will pay $4,053 to win / $400 to start event and feature a complete
show for the Southern Nationals Bonus Series Super Late Models
including practice, Time Trials, Last Chance Races and the 53-lap
main event. The Crate Late Models will race for $800 to win,
the Interstate Welding Modified Streets race for $400 to win
and the Pony division will race for $400 to win. This will be
the final racing event of the season for Tri-County Race Track.
Shawn Chastain Wins Tarheel 50 Tune-Up Race; Parker,
Shook, Bryson, Bowers, and Cross Also Victorious!
Tri-County Race Track hosted the annual 'Tarheel 50' Tune-Up
Race tonight and Shawn Chastain emerged victorious in the Super
Late Model showdown, which also locked up the Track Championship
for the x15 team! Following Chastain's machine to the checkers
was Kenny Collins, Danny Ledford, David Payne, and Randy Nichols.
Other winners tonight included Charlie Parker, Brett Shook,
Mike Bryson, Drew Bowers, and Jamie Cross. Thanks to all of
the fans, drivers, teams, and patrons that came out to the track
tonight and we hope to see you back at Tri-County on Friday,
October 3 for the 11th Annual 'Tarheel 50,' which will pay $4,053
to win for the Super Late Models!!! |
Anthony Nicholson Gets Redemption in USCS Sprint
Action at Tri-County Race Track!
Nicholson, the 2008 USCS Rookie of the Year from Bartlett, Tennessee,
stormed around the outside of K&N Filters pole-sitter Michael
Miller on the opening lap of Monday night’s 30-lap “Thunder
in the Mountains” Labor Day Classic A-main and never looked
back, wiring the field en route to his fourth USCS victory of
2014 at Ray Cook’s Tri County Race Track. The win was
Nicholson’s eighth career USCS feature win and fourth
of the 2014 season.
The victory also redeemed Nicholson for being passed by 10-time
series National Champion Terry Gray at the same race track where
he lost the battle inside of four laps to go seeking his first
series win during his rookie year in 2008. Nicholson has now
doubled his career series win total this season from four to

the 2nd Annual Tarheel Nationals for Go-Karts!
Promoter Ray Cook and the staff at Tri-County Race Track would
like to thank everyone who attended the 2nd Annual 'Tarheel
Nationals' for Go-Karts. The 17-class show drew a whopping 281
entrants to the Brasstown, North Carolina facility - a significant
increase in competitors from 2013. We look forward to hosting
the Go-Karts again next season!!!
Back to School Nickel Night Wins Go To Oliver, Ledford,
Anderson, Bryson, Burchfield, and Kelly!
ever-popular Back to School Nickel Night took place on Friday,
August 15 at Tri-County Race Track and a strong field of competitors
piled into the pit area for a pair of special events for the
Street Stock and Pony divisions. In addition to all of the kids
that found nickels on the racetrack, other winners for the evening
included Jamie Oliver, Danny Ledford, Jacob Anderson, Mike Bryson,
Lynn Burchfield, and Kevin Kelly. Congratulations to all of
tonight's winners and we thank each and every one of you for
coming out to the racetrack!!! |

Ray Cook would like to thank everyone for coming out to Tri-County
Race Track on Saturday, July 26 for the special SEMDTRA Flat
Track Motorcycle show! We had 101 entries this year, which was
up significantly from last season. Congratulations to all of
the winners from Saturday and we look forward to hosting another
SEMDTRA event next year! Next up at the Brasstown, North Carolina
bullring will be a special program this Friday, August 1 featuring
Limited Late Models $1,200 to win, Street Stock $500 to win,
and Pony $500.00 to win. The Crate Late Models and Modified
Street classes will run a regular show, while the Super Late
Models will be taking the weekend off. We look forward to seeing

The win by Roberts made him the fourth different
winner in four Southern Nationals Bonus Series events so far
in 2014, but the victory was not easy for Roberts as Kennie
Compton, Jr., who started 15th, charged his way to second and
pressured Roberts over the final few laps, but would come up
a bit short in his charge to the front. |
Booger Brooks Takes Modified Street Summer Shootout;
Chastain, Parker, Shook, Morrow, and Cross Also Bag Wins!

Race Track tonight for the Modified Street Summer Shootout,
which was accompanied by a full racing program for all of the
other divisions. Booger Brooks took home the $800 payday for
the Modified Street special, as he put his #48 in victory lane
over Greg Suddereth, Charles Devine, Jr., Jim Twiggs, and Mike
Bryson. Other winners on the evening were Shawn Chastain, Charlie
Parker, Paydon Shook, Andy Morrow, and Jamie Cross. Next up
will be the annual Circuit World 'Independence Day Championship'

Welshan DQ Gives Johnson NeSmith Chevrolet DLMS
Bill Hendren Memorial 40 Win at Tri-County!!!
Ronnie Johnson of Chattanooga, TN climbed from his NeSmith Chevrolet
Special in the Tech Area after what appeared to the be a second-place
finish on Friday night in the Bill Hendren Memorial 40 at Tri-County
Race Track, he was all smiles after a four-car three-wide battle
for the runner-up spot. A few minutes later, Johnson was declared
The apparent winner of the race, Jason Welshan of Maryville,
TN, who took the checkered flag with a full straightaway advantage
over Johnson, was disqualified during the post-race technical
inspection when it was discovered that a tire that came off
his Hidden Hollow Motorsports Special had been chemically altered.
That gave the defending NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series
National Champion Johnson his second win of the season and the
19th of his series career. The victory also gave Johnson the
NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series point lead in the battle

and a huge turnout of cars piled into the pit area at the Brasstown,
North Carolina bullring. Those that got off to a fast start
in the points include winners Shawn Chastain (Super Late Model),
Charlie Parker (Limited Late Model), Jason Deal (Crate Late
Model), Greg Suddereth (Modified Street), Ty Crisp (Street Stock),
and Jamie Cross (Pony). Thank you to each fan, driver, sponsor,
crew member, and everyone that turned out for our event tonight
and we look forward to seeing you at the track for the 'Spring
Championship' on Friday night, May 9!
Mike Marlar Takes Old Man’s
Garage Spring Nationals Series Victory in Tri-County Debut!
Marlar took the lead from Billy Ogle, Jr. on lap five and led
the remaining distance for his first-career Old Man’s
Garage Spring Nationals Series by Schaeffer’s Oil victory
on Thursday night, April 10th at Tri-County Race Track in Brasstown,
NC. The Winfield, Tenn. driver earned $4,000 for his efforts
while driving the Ronnie Delk owned, Cornett Racing Engines
powered Rocket Chassis. Marlar’s sponsors include Delk
Equipment, R&S Trading, and VP Race Fuels. This was Marlar’s
first win at the Ray Cook-promoted oval in his first career
FK Rod Ends Fast Timer Marlar and Ogle led the field of 22
to the start for the 40-lapper with Ogle taking to the point
and the early lead. The yellow would wave before a lap would
be completed because of a false start. This would bunch the
field up again for the restart. Ogle would then jump to the
point with Marlar in hot pursuit. The next yellow flag would
wave on lap one as Joe Armistead, Jr. would come to a stop in
turn one. By lap four, Marlar would catch Ogle and make the
pass coming off of turn four on the fifth lap to take the lead.
On lap five the yellow would fly as Victor Lee and Donald McIntosh
made contact in turn four and came to a stop. The lap-16 yellow
flag would wave as Ray McElhiney made contact with Austin Smith
in turn one. The final yellow would wave as David Payne slammed
the wall in turn two after jumping the cushion.
Tri-County Race Track Goes
for Third Try at Spring Nationals Series this Thursday, April
Old Man’s Garage Spring Nationals Series by Schaeffer’s
Oil will get a third try at racing action this coming Thursday
evening, April 10 at Tri-County Race Track in Brasstown, North
Carolina. After rains washed out the racing action the last
two Friday nights, track & series promoter Ray Cook has
dubbed this coming Thursday night as the makeup date for the
event, which will pay $4,000 to win and $400 to start for the
Spring Nationals Series-sanctioned event. The weather forecast
for this Thursday looks more promising, so the cars will take
to the track for this special event at the track located minutes
outside of Murphy, North Carolina.
The Tri-County Race Track in Brasstown, North Carolina will
be the fourth event on the schedule paying $4,000 to win / $400
to start on Thursday night, April 10. The support classes that
evening include the Crate Late Models racing for $600 to win,
the Interstate Welding Modified Street division will race for
$300 to win, and the Street Stocks will be competing for $250
to win. A $200 bonus will be paid to the highest finishing Steel
Head/Spec or 525 Late Model to make the show and $100 for the
second-highest finisher in the Spring Nationals Super Late Model
event. Casey Roberts of Toccoa, Georgia won in exciting fashion
during last year's series visit - capturing the $4,000 payday
over Billy Ogle Jr. and Stacy Boles.
Tri-County Race Track Releases 2014 Schedule of
Events Highlighted by Multiple Specials!!!
Track Promoter Ray Cook and the staff at the Tri-County Race
Track are pleased to announce their 2014 schedule of events,
which can be found on the SCHEDULE
page of the website! The schedule has a little something for
everyone, as special events will be held for all classes including
visits by the Old Man's Garage Spring Nationals, NeSmith Chevrolet
Dirt Late Model Series, USCS Sprint Car Series, and Southern
Nationals Series Bonus Races. In addition, the Go-Karts, Flat
Track Motorcycles, and Monster Trucks will once again pay a
visit to the 1/4-mile bullring in 2014.
We look forward to starting our season with an
open practice session from 6:00pm - 10:00pm on Friday, March
21. Pit admission will only be $15.00, while grandstand admission
for practice will be free!
